Generalmusic originated in 1890 when the first accordion was built by Antonio Galanti under the name "Premiata Fabbrica di Fisarmoniche Galanti". Over the years, the prestigious acoustic piano company Shulze Pollmann was acquired (1972) and a partnership for the development of electronic liturgical organs was started with Ahlborn (1980). Finally, in 1989, the Elka brand from Castelfidardo was acquired. The group, in its moment of maximum success, came to employ about 400 people with a catalog of over 200 products exported to over 80 countries with divisions in Germany, Benelux and the United States of America (Generalmusic Corp.).

Unfortunately, in the mid-2000s the company entered an irreversible crisis, unable to repeat the sales successes of previous years.

Of the great industrial complex of Recanati today remains a skeleton stripped bare following its foreclosure. Walking through the ghostly premises, accompanied only by the cawing of pigeons, we can still see some signs of what was once corporate life. The charm and splendor, although now fallen into disrepair, still ooze from those walls leaving the impression of being able to imagine and relive those glorious days.
